Teaching Children About Bible Miracles – David Defeats The Lion And The Bear

David defeats a Lion and a Bear

Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God.  If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today.  Here is an easy way to do that interactively.

Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of 1 Samuel:  David defeats the Lion and the Bear (1 Samuel 17:33-37)

After Saul is rejected as king by God, Samuel is directed to anoint David as the next king.  David was still a young man, too young to be part of Israel’s army as they fight the Philistines.  3 of David’s brothers were in Saul’s army and were waiting to fight the Philistines.  David’s father Jesse sends him out to bring food to his older brothers and to find out how they are doing.  What David finds is that the Philistines have a champion named Goliath who comes out each day asking for a fight with a single Israelite.  All the Israelites are afraid except for David.  Let’s see why.

Ask the children…

What did Saul say when David offered to go and fight Goliath?

“’Don’t be ridiculous!’ Saul replied. ‘There’s no way you can fight this Philistine and possibly win! You’re only a boy, and he’s been a man of war since his youth.’” (1 Samuel 17:33)

What gave David the confidence that with the Lord’s help he could defeat Goliath?

“But David persisted. ‘I have been taking care of my father’s sheep and goats,’ he said. ‘When a lion or a bear comes to steal a lamb from the flock, I go after it with a club and rescue the lamb from its mouth. If the animal turns on me, I catch it by the jaw and club it to death. I have done this to both lions and bears, and I’ll do it to this pagan Philistine, too, for he has defied the armies of the living God!’” (1 Samuel 17:34-36)

What gives us confidence that we can defeat those foes in our lives that seem too big to fight?  What miracles has God done in your past?  Like David, you probably want to review them regularly so when the big battles come, you have the stories of God’s strength in your life to encourage you.

Now you can see how Bible miracles are God’s way of blessing the world.  Glory to Him!!!
