Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of 1 Kings: A Elijah calls down Fire (1 Kings 18:19-39)
Wicked king Ahab had 450 prophets of the false god Baal who worked for him. Ahab had sent out his spies to find the man of God Elijah in order to kill him. However, they could not find him. Elijah presented himself to Obadiah, a servant of Ahab who feared the Lord. He told Obadiah to go and tell Ahab that Elijah would meet Ahab that day. Elijah wanted to show Ahab that there is only one true God.
Ask the children…
What did Elijah ask Ahab to do?
“Now therefore send, gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table.” (1 Kings 18:19)
Elijah proposed a challenge, Elijah against the 450 prophets of Baal, let the true God win. Each team would select a bull and cut it up and lay it out on wood, but not light the fire. The challenge was for each team to pray to their god, the true god would reveal himself by sending fire down to burn up the offering. What did the 450 prophets do and what happened?
“And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered.” (1 Kings 18:26)
What did Elijah do and what happened?
“And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid them on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour [it] on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood…’Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and thou hast turned their heart back again.’ Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that in the trench.” (1 Kings 18:33, 37, 38)
There is only one God and we can trust Him to show Himself as the King. We need only trust Him with our circumstances.
Now you can see how Bible miracles are God’s way of blessing the world. Glory to Him!!!
