Teaching Children About Bible Miracles – Gideon And Fire From A Rock

Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God.  If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today.  Here is an easy way to do that interactively.

Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Judges:  Gideon and Fire from a Rock (Judges 6:17-24)

One of God’s Judges was Gideon.  He was a reluctant Judge however.  God sent an angel to speak to Gideon and to encourage Gideon that he could lead God’s People to throw off the oppression of the Midianites.

Ask the children…

What did Gideon want the angel to do to prove he was from God?

“Gideon replied, ‘If you are truly going to help me, show me a sign to prove that it is really the LORD speaking to me. Don’t go away until I come back and bring my offering to you.’” (Judges 6:17, 18)

What miracle did the angel of the Lord do?

“Then the angel of the LORD touched the meat and bread with the tip of the staff in his hand, and fire flamed up from the rock and consumed all he had brought. And the angel of the LORD disappeared.” (Judges 6:21)

What was Gideon’s response?

“When Gideon realized that it was the angel of the LORD, he cried out, ‘Oh, Sovereign LORD, I’m doomed! I have seen the angel of the LORD face to face!’” (Judges 6:22)

God used the miracle to convince Gideon that God was really there to help him.  We all need assurance that God is with us.  That is why God sent His Holy Spirit to give us that assurance.

Now you can see how Bible miracles are God’s way of blessing the world.  Glory to Him!!!
