Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Luke: Jesus heals a leper. (Luke 5:12-15; Matthew 8:1-4; Mark 1:40-45)
Jesus’ ability to heal people extended to every kind of disease. The worst of all diseases during that time was leprosy. It caused the body to just waste away. A leper was shunned by the community and had to go out and live in leper colonies away from everyone else. Leprosy was considered a judgment from God. On this particular day Jesus comes across a man who had an advanced case of leprosy. He would have been considered a walking dead man.
Ask the children…
What did this leper do and what did he ask Jesus to do?
“When the man saw Jesus, he bowed with his face to the ground, begging to be healed. ‘Lord,’ he said, ‘if you are willing, you can heal me and make me clean.’” (Luke 5:12)
The bowing of the face to the ground was the ultimate act of homage and humility. This leper not only believed Jesus was worthy of worship, but that Jesus could heal and restore him. What did Jesus do?
“Jesus reached out and touched him. ‘I am willing,’ he said. ‘Be healed!’ And instantly the leprosy disappeared.” (Luke 5:13)
Jesus shocked everyone by reaching out and touching this leper. No one would even come near a leper for fear of contracting leprosy, but Jesus even touched this man. And then Jesus healed this man with a word. WOW! If Jesus could restore a leper to health, what else could Jesus do?
And that is what the Bible challenges us to think. If Jesus can restore a leper, is there anything He can’t do? He can even restore the most damaged soul to complete health. Is there someone God is calling you to reach out to in the name of Jesus that appears to be beyond repair?
