Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Luke: Jesus heals a man’s withered hand on the Sabbath (Luke 6:6-10; Matthew 12:9-14; Mark 3:1-6)
The kingdom of God has always been different than men have made it out to be. Men love rules. Why? Because if you have rules, you don’t need relationship. Jesus was all about relationship. In this particular miracle, we find another example of how Jesus cared about a person even when this miraculous caring broke a manmade Sabbath rule.
Ask the children…
What was Jesus’ opportunity to do good for someone?
“On another Sabbath day, a man with a deformed right hand was in the synagogue while Jesus was teaching.” (Luke 6:6)
What man made rule would hinder Jesus from doing good?
“The teachers of religious law and the Pharisees watched Jesus closely. If he healed the man’s hand, they planned to accuse him of working on the Sabbath.” (Luke 6:7)
How did Jesus challenge this man made rule?
“Then Jesus said to his critics, ‘I have a question for you. Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?’” (Luke 6:9).
What was the most important thing for Jesus, please his critics or do good to a needy man?
“He looked around at them one by one and then said to the man, ‘Hold out your hand.’ So the man held out his hand, and it was restored! ” (Luke 6:10)
Jesus loved mankind, not rules. He would do whatever it took to help mankind.
What man made rules are keeping you from really caring for the people God has put in your path?
