Teaching Children About Bible Miracles – Jesus Knew All About The Samaritan Woman

Jesus and Samaritan women

Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God.  If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today.  Here is an easy way to do that interactively.

Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of John:  Jesus knew everything about the Samaritan woman at the well. (John 4:1-42)

Jesus came to Samaria and there in the heat of the midday met a Samaritan woman.  This was unusual because the Jews and the Samaritans did not speak to each other and a man would not normally speak to a woman who was alone.  Jesus addressed this woman because he knew she was deeply wounded and an outcast even amongst the Samaritans.

Ask the children…

What did Jesus ask this woman for?

“Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, ‘Please give me a drink.’” (John 4:7)

After the woman expressed surprise that a Jew would speak to a Samaritan, what did Jesus tell her to do?

“Go and get your husband,’ Jesus told her.’” (John 4:16)

How did the woman respond?

“’I don’t have a husband,’ the woman replied.” (John 4:17)

What supernatural knowledge did Jesus have about the difficult life that this woman had lived?

“’You’re right! You don’t have a husband— for you have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now. You certainly spoke the truth!’” (John 4:17, 18 )

Jesus knew how hurting this woman was and how she had made many mistakes in her life.  But this didn’t stop Jesus from wanting to interact with her and bring her forgiveness and new life.

Our children will come in contact with many hurting people in their lives.  Jesus teaches us that we are to have compassion on those people and to let them know that God loves them and still has a wonderful plan for their lives.
