Teaching Children About Bible Miracles – Leprosy Of Miriam

Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God.  If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today.  Here is an easy way to do that interactively.

Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Numbers,  the Leprosy of Miriam (Numbers 12)

Miriam was the older sister of Moses and Aaron.  The 3 of them had been given by God a joint leadership over God’s People.  Moses, the youngest, was chosen by God as the principle leader.  Miriam spoke out in jealousy against Moses leadership and paid for it dearly.

Ask the children…

What two things did Miriam speak against Moses?

“While they were at Hazeroth, Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses because he had married a Cushite woman. They said, ‘Has the LORD spoken only through Moses? Hasn’t he spoken through us, too?’ But the LORD heard them.” (Numbers 12:1, 2)

Apparently Miriam was the speaker of the accusations since her name comes first.  She questioned Moses’ judgment in the choice of his wife and questioned the leadership role given to Moses as the one God spoke to directly

When God called the 3 of them to come to the tabernacle, what did He say to Miriam and Aaron?

“I speak to him (Moses) face to face, clearly, and not in riddles! He sees the LORD as he is. So why were you not afraid to criticize my servant Moses?”  (Numbers 12:8)

What two things did God do to show His displeasure with Miriam and Aaron?

“As the cloud moved from above the Tabernacle, there stood Miriam, her skin as white as snow from leprosy.” (Number 12:10)

1) God departed from the people as symbolized by the removal of the cloud and 2) Miriam contracted leprosy.  These two miraculous things showed God’s great displeasure towards Miriam and Aaron for questioning God’s authority in choosing to speak and lead primarily through Moses.  This was a warning to all the people that they for their own good they should not question God.

Now you can see how Bible miracles are God’s way of blessing the world.  Glory to Him!!!
