Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Numbers; the Budding of Aaron’s Rod (Numbers 17:1-12)
While God’s People are wandering in the desert and undergoing trials, they begin to question the leadership of Moses and Aaron.
Just prior to this miracle, God had judged the leaders of the grumblers by swallowing up into the earth them and their families. After that He burned up the 250 leaders who were with them and then caused a plague to break out amongst the people who followed them. All because they questioned God’s authority and wisdom in choosing Moses and Aaron as leaders.
In this next miracle we find God reaffirms Aaron’s leadership as the chosen High Priest.
Ask the children…
Who was represented in this miraculous contest to prove who God had chosen to lead?
“Tell the people of Israel to bring you twelve wooden staffs, one from each leader of Israel’s ancestral tribes, and inscribe each leader’s name on his staff. Inscribe Aaron’s name on the staff of the tribe of Levi, for there must be one staff for the leader of each ancestral tribe.” (Numbers 17:2, 3)
How would they know who God had chosen?
“Buds will sprout on the staff belonging to the man I choose. Then I will finally put an end to the people’s murmuring and complaining against you.” (Numbers 17:5)
So what happened?
“When he went into the Tabernacle of the Covenant the next day, he found that Aaron’s staff, representing the tribe of Levi, had sprouted, budded, blossomed, and produced ripe almonds!” (Number 17:8)
Not only did flowers come from a dead piece of wood, but God actually caused almonds to grow on it. When God does miracles, it is never half way. He wanted to people to know for sure who the leader of the priests was.
This reminds us that not only that God can cause a dead stick to rise from the dead and blossom, but He caused His son Jesus to rise from the dead and give new life to all who came to Him.
Now you can see how Bible miracles are God’s way of blessing the world. Glory to Him!!!
