Teaching Children About Bible Miracles – The Plague Of Flies

Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God.  If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today.  Here is an easy way to do that interactively.

Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Exodus:  The Plague of Flies.  (Exodus 8:20-30)

Remind your children that God’s children (The Jews) were now slaves in Egypt.  Moses and his brother Aaron have been called by God to tell Pharaoh (Egypt’s king) that He must let the Jews go.  Pharaoh had told them NO!

So God brought 10 miraculous plagues to convince Pharaoh to let His people go.  Here is the fourth plague.

Ask the children…

What did Moses ask Pharaoh to let his people do or else God would loose the plague of flies on them?

“Then the LORD told Moses, ‘Get up early in the morning and stand in Pharaoh’s way as he goes down to the river. Say to him, “This is what the LORD says: Let my people go, so they can worship me. If you refuse, then I will send swarms of flies on you, your officials, your people, and all the houses.”’” (Exodus 8:20, 21)

Not only was it a miracle that God sent flies, but it was a miracle that the flies covered the Egyptians but not on the land of __________ where God’s people lived.  What did this prove?

“But this time I will spare the region of Goshen, where my people live. No flies will be found there. Then you will know that I am the LORD and that I am present even in the heart of your land.”  (Exodus 8:22)

Did Pharaoh say he would let God’s people go to worship God?  Did Pharaoh keep his promise?

“’All right, go ahead,’ Pharaoh replied. ‘I will let you go into the wilderness to offer sacrifices to the LORD your God. But don’t go too far away. Now hurry and pray for me.’”But Pharaoh again became stubborn and refused to let the people go.” (Exodus 8:28, 32 )

Pharaoh did not keep his word when God removed the flies, but God had more miracles left to convince old Pharaoh.

Now you can see how Bible miracles are God’s way of blessing the world.  Glory to Him!!!
