Teaching Children About Bible Miracles – The Sparing Of Isaac’s Life

Abraham and Issac

Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important as it helps them to see how God can get anything done. How powerful He is. Here is an easy way to do that.

Let’s focus on one of the great Bible miracles found in the book of Genesis.  The story of the sparing of Isaac’s life.

Ask the children why God had asked Abraham to sacrifice (kill) his son Isaac?

“Take your son, your only son—yes, Isaac, whom you love so much—and go to the land of Moriah. Go and sacrifice him as a burnt offering on one of the mountains, which I will show you.” (Genesis 22:2)

God wanted Abraham to learn two things.  1)  Trusting God and being obedient is critical even if Abraham didn’t understand why.  2)  Abraham could trust God to do the right thing.

Was Abraham willing to even kill his own son in order to do what God had asked?

“And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice.” (Genesis 22:10)

How did God miraculously provide the offering?

“Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son.”  (Genesis 22:13)

What did Abraham learn about God?

“Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the LORD will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”  (Genesis 22:14)

Help your kids see how the Bible miracles are God’s way of blessing the world. Glory to Him!!
