Teaching children about the Bible miracles is important because it helps them to see how nothing is impossible for God. If God can do miracles in the Bible, He can do them in our children’s lives today. Here is an easy way to do that interactively.
Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of Joshua: Uncovering Sin and the Defeat of Ai (Joshua 7:1-8:29)
After the great defeat of Jericho, God’s People become proud and don’t consult God regarding their next battle against the smaller city Ai. Little do they know that one of the own, Achan, has disobeyed God’s command not to take any spoil from Jericho. As a result, God is not with them in their fight against Ai and they are defeated. The people cry out in despair, not realizing that if they had consulted God in the first place He would have revealed that the sin in their camp is the problem.
Ask the children…
What did God tell Joshua to do?
“Get up! Command the people to purify themselves in preparation for tomorrow. For this is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: Hidden among you, O Israel, are things set apart for the LORD. You will never defeat your enemies until you remove these things from among you. “In the morning you must present yourselves by tribes, and the LORD will point out the tribe to which the guilty man belongs. That tribe must come forward with its clans, and the LORD will point out the guilty clan. That clan will then come forward, and the LORD will point out the guilty family. Finally, each member of the guilty family must come forward one by one. The one who has stolen what was set apart for destruction will himself be burned with fire, along with everything he has, for he has broken the covenant of the LORD and has done a horrible thing in Israel.” (Joshua 7:13, 14, 15)
Joshua did just as the Lord commanded and the Lord miraculously pointed out Achan as the guilty part. Achan confesses and God’s People carry out God’s punishment. Why was this important?
“Then Joshua said to Achan, ‘Why have you brought trouble on us? The LORD will now bring trouble on you.’ And all the Israelites stoned Achan and his family and burned their bodies.” (Joshua 7:25)
Sin in the camp brought God’s anger and removed His presence. Once the sin was rooted out, God returned to the camp and the people easily defeated Ai with God’s miraculous help.
Now you can see how Bible miracles are God’s way of blessing the world. Glory to Him!!!
