Teaching Children The Importance Of Praising God With Music

The Psalmist tells us that we were designed by God to give Him praise.  Even if we are not musically talented God made us to praise Him with music.

Ask the children…

What are we supposed to do with our joy towards God?

“Let the godly sing for joy to the Lord;
    it is fitting for the pure to praise him.”
(Psalm 33:1)

So we are to sing our praises with joy.  How else are we to express this joy?

“Praise the Lord with melodies on the lyre;
    make music for him on the ten-stringed harp.
Sing a new song of praise to him;
    play skillfully on the harp, and sing with joy.”
(Psalm 33:2, 3)

God has given us music as one way to express our joy and praise Him.  Certainly there are other ways as well; prayer, service, using our gifts.  But there is something special about music that connects our souls to God.  My adult children were home for the weekend and I got a taste of all the music that they love.  They played it 24/7.  Why?  Because it connected to their hearts and made them happy.  So it is with God that music connects us to God and makes Him happy and us happy too. For we were designed to praise God with music.

Spend some time praising God together with your children by making your own music or by singing along with some Christian music.  Make it a joyful time.
