Teaching Kids Key Life Learnings from 100 Biblical Characters: No. 36 – Ruth

Ruth Bible Story

What practical key life learnings can we glean from the life of Ruth?

Context (Ruth):  Ruth is one of my heroes in the Bible.  Even as a man, I can find so much to pattern my life after in the life of Ruth.  When faced with the premature death of her husband, she chose to follow her mother-in-law, Naomi, back to her homeland in order to take care of her.  She trusted God to provide food for her family and went out into the field in order to glean.  She listened to Naomi when she found favor in the eyes of her relative, Boaz.  And finally Ruth was married, conceived, and became the great grandmother of King David.  And all this and she wasn’t even in the family of Israel, Ruth was from Moab.

Key Life Learnings:

Our faithfulness with be a great blessing to others (Ruth 4:13-21):  God blessed Ruth with a new husband and a son.  More importantly, Ruth was a  blessing to Naomi as her daughter-in-law for she was “better to you than seven sons” (Ruth 4:15).  She provided Naomi by taking care of her and providing for her, giving her a new family, a grandson, and giving to Naomi the privilege of  becoming the great, great grandmother of King David.  Ruth was a great blessing to Naomi and to the nation of Israel even though she was from Moab.

It is easy to think that because we aren’t rich and famous, that what we do doesn’t matter in the big scheme of things.  But nothing could be further from the truth.  Inside you is the miraculous God given ability to be faithful to God in the small things He gives us to do everyday.  It is God’s job to take those small things, like leaven in a loaf of bread, and use them to impact the lives of thousands of people around you.  You may not be aware of it, but your faithfulness makes all the difference in the world, just like Ruth’s faithfulness.
