What practical key life learnings can we glean from the life of Samuel?

Context (1 Samuel 1-28 ):  Samuel had been dedicated to the Lord by his mother Hannah from the time he was an infant.  He grew up serving Eli the priest and became Israel’s last judge.  He anointed the first two kings ofIsrael and led the nation in following God.

Key Life Learnings:

The kind of person we are is more important than anything that we might do (1 Samuel 7:2-12):  The people looked to Samuel to be their leader.  He spoke to them and called them to repent and to turn away from worshipping foreign gods.  He told them that if they did this, God would deliver them from the hand of the Philistines.

Samuel led the people in worship of God and when the Philistines showed up, so did God.  God thundered from heaven and so confused the Philistines that the Israelites routed them that day.  But it all began with Samuel leading the people in repentance and worship.

That is the place to start for all of us.  Begin with getting our relationship with God right and He will take care of the rest.
