Teaching Kids To Love Others Well

Throughout the Bible we are called to love God and to love one another.

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.” 1 John 4:7

“ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’  This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”  Matthew 22: 37-39

So we know that loving others well is extremely important to Jesus but how do we do that practically?  So often people say actions speak louder than words so what is a way to go beyond just saying I love you?  I think one of the greatest way to tell someone how much you care about them is to encourage them through a meaningful note.  A note does not necessarily have to be something super long or deep, it can simply be a few words that will encourage that special someone.   A great idea for your kids is to have them make a colorful drawing and write Thank you ____ for _____.  I love you!  It is those simple random gestures that show that you care.  Teaching kids to encourage others at a young age is a great idea so that it becomes a part of who they are.
