Peter writes to the same Christians as 1 Peter and encourages them to seek the true knowledge of Christ and to reject all the false teaching that they are hearing.
2 Peter is written shortly after 1 Peter. The problem addressed is false teaching in the church.
Peter warns his readers that false teachers will be judged by God just like they were in the Old Testament. They will teach Christians that it is OK to abandon holy living and they encourage immorality.
Peter writes to reject this teaching and to seek Christ and His promises and power. He also reminds them that Christ is going to come back sometime when no one expects it. Therefore, be on guard against false teaching and grow in the knowledge of Christ while you wait.
Key New Testament Kid’s Application:
- Ask your kids what things they know for sure about Christ that are true, e.g. Birth, death, burial, resurrection, etc. How do they know this? Ask them why these truths are important to them? Warn them that there are many people in the world that don’t believe these things. Pray with them for protection from error and for God’s truth to win the hearts of unbelievers.
