False teachers had come into Thessalonica and taught that the return of Christ had already happened and the Thessalonians had already missed it.

Paul wrote to explain the order of events that would precede Christ’s return and to assure the Thessalonians that it had not happened yet.  On that day, judgment will fall on those who do not believe and believers will be protected.

Paul encouraged the Thessalonians that they were part of God’s believing family who would be protected on that day and that they should stand firm in their faith as a result.

Key New Testament Kid’s Application:

  1. Share a story with your children of when you were in danger but God protected you.  If you can’t think of one, read Daniel 3.  Remind them that no matter what they are going through, they can trust God to protect them.
