Today let’s focus on teaching kids a Bible miracle from the book of Acts. The miracle of the ascension made way for the coming of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 1:4-11)
In the Christian church today we celebrate the resurrection of Christ each Easter. Much less time is spent considering the importance of the ascension of Christ back into heaven from where He had come. Let’s look at this miracle and its meaning.
Ask the children…
What did Jesus tell the disciples to wait for?
“‘Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. John baptized withwater, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’” (Acts 1:4)
What happened next?
“After saying this, he was taken up into a cloud while they were watching, and they could no longer see him. .” (Acts 1:9)
When Jesus was still here on earth, the Holy Spirit could not come and inhabit the believers. But when He had left to ascend to heaven to be with His Father, He opened the way for the Holy Spirit to come.
The ascension and coming of the Holy Spirit was the beginning of the church and of the power of God invested in all who believe. This is same power that is in your children today if they are believers. Spend some time with your children reading this passage and ask them why Jesus told His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit and what it means to have the Holy Spirit living inside them? Ask them how they can rely on the Holy Spirit today?
