Today let’s focus on a Bible miracle from the book of John. Jesus raises Lazarus from the dead, Part 1 (John 11:1-46)
This miracle comes in 3 parts. Part 1 is the preparation for the miracle. Part 2 is the prelude of the miracle. Part 3 is the performance of the miracle. In this blog we are going to focus on Part 1. Jesus prepared for this miracle of raising Lazarus from the dead by doing a surprising thing. Let’s see what it was.
Ask the children…
How did Jesus find out about his dear friend’s sickness?
“So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him, ‘Lord, your dear friend is very sick.’” (John 11:3)
What did Jesus know about this sickness and what was the purpose of it?
“But when Jesus heard about it he said, ‘Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.'” (John 11:4)
How did Jesus’ surprising response prepare the way for this miracle?
“So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, he stayed where he was for the next two days.” (John 11: 5, 6)
Jesus waited for two more days because He knew that during this time of delaying that Lazarus would die. It was important that Lazarus was dead when He got there so that He could do the amazing miracle of raising Him.
You have probably heard that God’s timing is not our timing. God doesn’t operate on a timetable that makes sense to us. Ask your children if there is something that they want right now that they know they will have to wait for. Some new clothes, a toy, a vacation, some time with their grandparents, healing from a disease. Now take some time to thank God together that God’s timing is not our timing and He has a perfect plan to do in our lives just what is best for us at the proper time.
