The Olympics, A Model For The Christian Life

The life of an Olympian is really centered around practicing every day in order to master their sport and then to win when it comes time to compete.  This is the same basic outline for the Christian life.  Christ followers are in the word daily, building a strong foundation in the Lord so that when the battles and struggles begin we have the strength to overcome them.

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.  Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.”   1 Corintians 4: 24-25

The Olympics is the perfect time to explain this verse to kids because they totally understand that in order for these athletes to be successful they have worked so hard.  Same thing for us.  In order for us to live well on this earth we must train in Christ.

What does it mean to train in Christ for your child? It is to actively pursue Him through prayer, memorizing scripture, and knowing His word.
