2 Timothy 2:15 is a favorite children’s Bible memory verse, but how many know the story behind this verse?
“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Paul wrote to his young associate Timothy to teach him how to lead the church.
When Paul went on to the church of Ephesus, he left Timothy behind to lead the work. This was a giant task because Timothy was still a relatively young man.
One area of leadership that Paul wrote to Timothy about was the importance of focusing on the word of God. As Timothy was selecting leaders to train, he needed to select those who were committed to studying the word of God. In the word is the truth regarding life. In order to be approved workers, they had to understand God’s word and God’s perspective on life.
Our children are being barraged constantly by the world’s value system. Only an education in the word of God will give them a kingdom perspective for life as God’s approved workers.
Now you know the story behind 2 Timothy 2:15.
