Hebrews 13:5 is a favorite children’s bible memory verse, but how many know the story behind this verse?
“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, ‘Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you’.”
The unknown author of Hebrews encourages Hebrew Christians to put their faith in Christ and His superior work and person.
This writer put it very simply, keep Christ the main thing.
The author tells the Hebrew believers since they are now receiving this heavenly kingdom from Christ, they have a responsibility to live accordingly. They should love one another, take care of strangers, minister to prisoners and protect marriages.
The author specifically writes in Hebrews 13:5 that they are to be content with what they have and not to love money and things because God will always be with them and provide for their needs.
Now you know the story behind Hebrews 13:5.
