Romans 8:28 is a favorite children’s Bible memory verse, but how many know the story behind this verse?
“For God works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose.”
Paul was a great missionary and went around planting churches everywhere. This particular letter he wrote to the church in Rome. Surprisingly he had never been there. The church was planted by those who had come to Christ and then went to Rome and started a church.
Paul wrote this letter to encourage the Roman church and to give them a proper foundation in their faith.
In Romans 8 Paul wrote to the Romans about how they would undergo great suffering during this present life, but that they would receive a future glory that would make it all worth it.
Paul wrote that God had sent His Holy Spirit to pray alongside the Romans so that God’s will would be accomplished through them.
Not only that, but in verse 28, Paul wrote that no matter how bad things got for the Roman believers, God would cause all things to work for good.
What an amazing truth! When we look at our difficulties in life today, no matter how bad they get, God will use them for our good and to carry out His purposes. What an encouraging truth we can give to our kids to take with them for the rest of their lives.
Now you know the story behind Romans 8:28.
