The story behind Romans 5:8 was that Paul was telling the Roman believers that God loved them so much that He had His son die for them even though they didn’t deserve it.
Kid’s will remember, and more importantly understand, Bible memory verses if you tell them the story behind the verse.
Read Romans 5:6-8. (v. 6) Paul told the Romans that no one has the strength to do the right thing all the time. Everyone disobeys God. Christ loves everyone so much that He died for everyone who has disobeyed God.
(v. 7) Paul says that if someone was good (if it were possible to be good), you might put your life on the line for them.
(v. 8) But God so loved all of us people who have disobeyed Him (all of us), that He sent His Son to die for us.
Now your kids are ready to understand and memorize Romans 5:8,
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”.
As they memorize, focus their thinking on how the memory verse ties into the story:
- Have them substitute their name for “us”.
- Remind them that they don’t deserve this gift, God gave it to them out of His love.
- Ask them how it feels to be loved this much.
