“For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
The unknown author of Hebrews encourages Hebrew Christians to put their faith in Christ and His superior work and person.
KTMTTMT – Keep the main thing the main thing. It is so easy to get distracted as Christians. This writer put it very simply, keep Christ the main thing.
In chapter 4 the author describes who the work of Christ is greater than that of Moses or Joshua. Their work could not bring the Hebrew people to a place of rest, a right relationship with God. Only the work of Christ could change the very hearts of the people which is what they needed.
This rest in Christ has a daily part to it. Although the readers have experienced the joyful rest of a relationship with Christ, the world will fight against them daily to remove them from experiencing that rest. In Hebrews 4:12, the readers are told that God uses His word every day to expose those areas in deepest part of their lives that are in need of cleansing and transformation. That is His promise.
Without the word we will fall prey to the lies of this world and miss out on Christ’s daily rest.
