Joshua is a favorite children’s Bible memory verse, but how many know the story behind this verse?
“Do not let this book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
Following 40 years of wandering the desert in Numbers, God’s people finally enter and conquer the Promised Land in the book of Joshua.
After nearly 500 years, God’s special nation is going to receive the fulfillment of God’s promise made to Abraham back in Genesis 12:7; 17:8. They are going to go in and inhabit this special piece of land and there worship and serve God and be a blessing to all.
The book of Joshua begins by Joshua taking over for Moses as the new leader. Ae is being instructed by God as to how to lead God’s people. One of the critical things that Joshua is to do is to follow God’s word in his own life and to keep it in front of the people.
In verse 8, God instructs Joshua to continue to speak about the word, to think about it continually and to do it. The results of this would be that God would make Joshua and the nation prosperous by His presence and they would have success in conquering the land.
God has provided the same privilege to us and to our children. God has provided to us, His children, His word in order to empower us to become all that He intends us to be in this life and to enjoy our relationship with Him.
