John 1:1 is a favorite children’s Bible memory verse, but how many know the story behind this verse?

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

John was one of Jesus’ disciples.  He wrote this book to prove that Jesus was in fact God come here to earth to save people from their sins.

He began his book by stating the first part of his thesis, Jesus (the Word) is God, and He existed from all eternity.

Not only this, but John followed this up with John 1:14 in which he writes, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us”.  Not only is Jesus God, but this same Word became flesh and was a man too.

So we find this incredible truth about our Lord in the first few verses of John that Jesus was God and man and existed from all eternity and (v. 3) He created everything.

Now you know the story behind John 1:1.
