Judges 6:12 is a favorite children’s Bible memory verse, but how many know the story behind this verse?
“The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor.”
The book of Judges is about leaders that God selected to lead His chosen people during a time when they were revolting from God and being overrun by their enemies.
Gideon was one of these Judges. He lived during a period where the Midianites ruled over God’s people and constantly terrorized them. The people finally humbled themselves and cried out to God for help.
Gideon was the youngest son from one of the smallest tribes. One day he was hiding in a winepress from the Midianites and was threshing wheat.
The Angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon and spoke the words of verse 12. Even Gideon couldn’t believe that he could possibly be a “mighty man of valor”. But he was God’s choice and that is what matters. With 300 men God used Gideon to defeat the whole Midianite army.
When you read this verse, remind your children that they are God’s choice and He has raised them up to be God’s men and women of valor. They have the Holy Spirit living inside them who gives them all the power they need no matter what the odds.
