2 Timothy 3:16, 17 are favorite children’s bible memory verses, but how many know the story behind the verses?
“All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Paul wrote to his young associate Timothy to teach him how to lead the church.
When Paul went on to the church of Ephesus, he left Timothy behind to lead the work. This was a giant task because Timothy was still a relatively young man.
Timothy had been instructed in the Bible every since he was young. Paul wanted to remind Timothy that this same Bible was God breathed, and written by men inspired by God to put down just the right words.
Paul was telling Timothy in 2 Timothy 3:16, 17, that despite his young age, he could be confident when he studied and taught the Bible, that it was true and that he could use it to teach and train the believers how to grow up and serve God.
