Genesis 1:26 is a favorite children’s bible memory verse, but how many know the story behind this verse?
“Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
There are 3 beginnings in the book of Genesis; the Beginning of the World and Mankind, the Beginning of sin and the Beginning of God’s Special Nation.
In the first beginning, God spent 5 days creating stars, planets, oceans, land, plant life, animals, ship and birds. On the 6th day He created male and female and He gave them a very special task, to take care of the rest of creation.
Because mankind was created in God’s image, they were given this incredible responsibility to watch over and protect the creation just the way God would.
Mankind is different than the rest of creation, we are the only one’s created in God’s image. Only we have been given that special ability to enjoy a personal relationship with God.
