Why Vacation Bible School?

Summer is here, a wonderful time to see our neighbors and get to know their kids. Why not take this time to get involved in your local Vacation Bible School and bring your neighborhood kids. Did you know that 85 percent of people who make a decision for Christ do so between the ages of 4 and 14?

This is the time to lead kids to Jesus. Next to Sunday school, Vacation Bible School is a wonderful way to reach out to kids. A company called Gospel Light offers a large amount of resources that lead kids to Jesus. Their fun, colorful, entertaining Vacation Bible school programs make it easy for teachers. If you can’t find a local program to get involved in why not order some material on your own and start your own program.

Many children in and around our neighborhoods are looking for things to do. Why not use this opportunity to lead them to Christ? Be like D.T. Miles, a public school teacher who felt the time constraints in teaching the Bible to children so she decided to use her summer to teach a daily Bible school. Her first program lasted four weeks and enrolled forty students. Thus the birth of the vacation Bible School concept.

With the help of Gospel Light’s Vacation Bible School resources let’s reach out and share God’s love this summer.

  4. I began doing VBS and after school programs at our church and invited neighbors to attend. That led to our neighbors asking for us to do something for them “in the hood”. It was really neat to have mom’s coming with their kids and having whole families help prepare for our sessions. One of my favorite “lesson plans” was to work through the life of Jesus using the song “AMEN” to pull the stories together and give the kids a song with verses to help them remember the stories. We added a picture of each story on the wall each session, along with a new verse to the song. The kids and parents helped write each verse and performed the song as a video that we gave to all the houses for Christmas that year. It is amazing what God can do!
