“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord…It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24
This verse is such an amazing one to teach to children. So often as you grow up you feel pressure that to be a “good” Christian you have to do x,y,and z. You have to be a missionary, you have to talk about God all the time, you have to go to every church event, etc.
According to Colossians 3:23-24; however, following those pressures is not what God desires for us. He simply desires that in anything and everything we treat it as if we were working for the Lord. How freeing!
To explain this to your child have them think through things that they do during their day- brush their teeth, go to school, set the table, do their homework, etc. Then ask them what it would like like to do all these things as if serving the Lord- do it with joy, put their full energy into it, do their best, etc.
This concept is so valuable because no matter what stage of life you are in, or what you are doing you can honor God. What good news!
