“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20
As Christians we are given the responsibility of being an ambassador for Christ. This is such an important concept to point out at a young age because God has called us to be ministers to the world, no matter where we are in life. What does being a ambassador mean though? Just as an ambassador represents their home country in a foreign land, so also do we represent Christ on this earth.
For a child what does that look like? This means that we, as Christians, represent Jesus to everyone else who does not know Jesus. Put it in even simpler terms. Explain to the child that if someone had never seen a dog before, yet saw one for the first time they might think that all dogs would look and act just like that first dog. Just like that if someone has no idea who Jesus is and they see us, who say we follow Jesus, then they may think that Jesus would act and look just like us. Explain to your child that because of this reasoning it is really important to think “Would Jesus do this” before we act.
This applies to every aspect of life.
“Would Jesus take the ball from that person or share?”
“Would Jesus say hi to that lonely kid?”
“Would Jesus be watching this movie, or listening to this song?”
Its a great way to encourage your kids to think through their actions, before they do anything, good or bad, and it teaches them to honor God with every aspect of life.
